Counterfeit Chinese rubbers are common and can be hard to spot. Every sheet is inspected before it is packed, and if one is ever shown not to be genuine, we refund it in full.

39° Chinese is not 39° ESN
Chinese and ESN makers count hardness differently, so the numbers on the box are not comparable. One Chinese degree is worth roughly 1.325 ESN degrees. A Hurricane sold as 39° is about 51.7° on the ESN scale — far firmer than an ESN sheet labelled 40°.
Every rubber we sell with a degree rating lists both numbers, so you can compare a Chinese sheet against whatever you play now without doing the arithmetic. Batch variation of a degree or so is normal and is not a defect.
Tack is grab. Grip is friction.
A tacky topsheet grips the ball itself: press a ball on lightly and the sheet holds it against gravity — that is the test in our hero image. It bites a slow, low-pressure ball, which is why it dominates over-the-table touch play and heavy opening loops against backspin.
Grippy European sheets need you to press into them before they generate spin, and they pay you back with more speed once you do. Neither is better. Tacky rewards a full swing and good legs; grippy rewards short, fast strokes.
If your third ball is an opening loop against backspin, tacky is usually the answer. If it is a fast counter off the bounce, it usually is not.
Max is not automatically the right choice
Thicker sponge stores more energy and gives more spin and speed on a full stroke. It also raises the throw angle, adds weight, and makes short play harder to control. On a tacky Chinese rubber those trade-offs are sharper than on a soft European sheet.
2.15–2.2 mm (max) suits a forehand that swings fully. 1.9–2.0 mm gives back touch and control, and is often the smarter backhand choice. Under 1.8 mm is specialist territory — mostly blockers and choppers.
Sponge thickness is also the cheapest change you can make. Before spending more on a faster rubber, try the same sheet one step thinner.

Serve, receive, attack. In Chinese training the third ball is the one you have engineered the first two to set up — the first real chance to finish the point. It is the ball your equipment either helps you hit or quietly stops you hitting.

Authenticity guarantee
Fakes are common in Chinese rubbers and hard to spot once the packaging is off. Every sheet is inspected before it is packed, including the maker’s authenticity markings where it uses them.
If any sheet you receive is ever shown not to be genuine, we refund it in full and cover the return postage. There is no time limit on this guarantee.
How we verify stockReturns & contact
Unused items can be returned within 30 days for a full refund. Once a rubber has been used — glued, boosted or played — it cannot be returned unless it is shown not to be genuine, so if you are unsure which hardness you need, ask us before you order. If you return an unused item for any other reason, the return postage is yours to cover.
